Decent weekend, but not easy

Valencia brought Kevin the second podium of the year

As you already know, Kevin took P3 and P6 from Valencia GP3 standalone-weekend. Podium in race 1 catapulted Kevin to 3rd in the standings but team-mate Aaro Vainio’s second place in race 2 squeezed Kevin back to fourth overall. Anyway a decent meeting by almost any standards, but Kevin’s?

„I can be contented. It was certainly an above-average weekend, I earned some good points. Valencia, along with Hungaroring, is the most difficult track for overtaking and this time it favored me. Race 2 was effectively a procession in reversed finishing order. Otherwise it would have been very difficult to defend P6 in race two, my tires were completely off. Aaro struggled as well and had to fight hard to keep his P2. Basically it was down to qualification, we had not the best set-up there but at least we knew what we did wrong.“

Then, you was the fastest in the free practice, so hopes were high perhaps?

„Best practice time was a real surprise, there was no intention to try some extra hot laps. I went off briefly, then took fresh set of tires and on my first flying lap – bang! – the fastest time. Car was a little bit oversteery in the middle of corners so we tried to change it for qualification but took the wrong direction and tire wear became even worse. Especially during race 2, when track temperatures were much higher.“

You was also very fast during the test days in Hungary? Did it help in Valencia?

„Yes, qualification speed came from there. But the others progressed as well, for instance all Arden guys were fast towards the end so they can somehow keep their tires alive.“

Next round will be held in Silverstone which is a very different track and you will rejoin F1 GP. What are your thoughts?

„Yeah, it was quite strange in Valencia, we were the only series racing there, absolutely no other cars. Silverstone is a good track but much depends on weather there. The most important thing in this series is to finish in Top 8 in race 1.“
